Climate Change Mainstreaming in Development Planning and Policy Training Course

Introduction

Climate change mainstreaming in development planning is an essential approach for integrating climate considerations into policies, programmes, projects, budgets, and institutional decision-making. As climate-related risks increasingly affect economic development, infrastructure, agriculture, natural resources, public services, and community wellbeing, development planners need practical skills to identify climate risks and incorporate appropriate adaptation and mitigation measures into mainstream planning processes. This training course provides a structured understanding of how climate change can be systematically integrated into development priorities rather than treated as a separate environmental concern.

The course equips participants with practical tools for climate risk assessment, vulnerability analysis, policy integration, programme design, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation. Participants will explore approaches for aligning development objectives with climate resilience and low-emission development while considering institutional capacities, stakeholder priorities, financing opportunities, and measurable results. Through practical exercises and applied planning techniques, participants will develop the ability to mainstream climate change considerations across different levels and sectors of development planning.
